What distinguishes carpet cleaning companies?
We will try to inform you so choosing the right carpet cleaning method correctly, and the right company will be more comfortable. In this guide, you will understand the facts about carpet cleaning. These facts will enable you to take an informed decision.
#1: There is no problem in waiting a while to have my carpets clean
No. Dirt is an abrasive. When you step on the carpet, you grind dirt into your carpet fibres. This process cuts your carpet as if you had used a knife, causing it to wear out faster. A soiled carpet will not last as long as a clean carpet. While vacuuming help, it’s not enough. While you delay having your carpet cleaned, the more damage you do to your carpet, and the faster it wears out.
#2: The reason to clean carpets is to get the dirt and spots out.
No. Air contains pollen, fungus, bacteria, and hundreds of other harmful chemicals. You and your family carry those. It is on hair and skin, clothing, and shoes. All those chemicals, pollen and bacteria end up, in your carpet.
Carpet is a fantastic air filter and prevents these pollutants from becoming airborne again. Like any filter, your carpet needs a periodical cleaning.
Tobacco smoke contains over 4000 separate chemical compounds, 43 of which cause cancer. Even if you don’t smoke, those chemicals get on your shoes. You carry them into your home and deposit them in your carpet. If you’re sensitive to cigarette smoke, you’ll find that you’ll breathe more relaxed after the removal of those chemicals from your carpet. The main reason to clean a carpet is to flush out the contaminants in it. Even more important than getting rid of the dirt spots.
#3: Methods of carpet cleaning are all equivalent.
No. You can choose from two primary methods:
DRY CLEANING or
HOT WATER EXTRACTION.
People believe that dry cleaning your carpets is like dry cleaning your clothing. All carpet cleaning methods use water, and these are the three methods of dry cleaning carpet:
1. Dry Foam. Application of water-based dry foam to the carpet, allowed to dry and then vacuumed. It is like applying shampoo to your hair, allowing it to dry and then removing it with a head with a vacuum? This method leaves a vast amount of residue in your carpet, with the residue of the foam as well. Not effective at all.
2. Dry-Chem. The dry-chem method is like dry foam. It starts with the application of a water-based solution the carpet. Then a bonnet with under a rotary floor machine and goes over the carpet surface to absorb the soil. The bonnet becomes wet with soil. Then its time to another bonnet. This process is like trying to use a large towel to rub the dirt out of your carpet. This method leaves a residue behind and only removes soil from the top part of the carpet. Like dry foam not effective at all.
3. Dry Compound. It is the application of a dry mixture that looks like wet sawdust on your carpeting. The machine brushes the moisture into the carpet, which in theory causes dirt to absorb into the mixture. When the mixture has dried, a vacuum cleaner sucks the material out of the carpeting. In a cut pile carpet, it is impossible to vacuum it all out. As all other dry cleaning methods, the dry compound method is not effective at all.
You may ask then:
"Why do most carpet cleaning companies use dry cleaning methods?"
Simple, the dry cleaning equipment is less expensive than hot water extraction equipment. That is right. About 90% less expensive. NINETY PERCENT. And operating a dry cleaning machine is very simple. Perfect for franchisors to sell their "solution" to franchisees, unfortunately, untrained people. You will pay maybe even more as for a service done by trained professionals. And your carpet is now with most of the residue accumulated deep into the fibres. And with the addition of the chemical residue from "dry cleaning methods". It's a fact.
HOT WATER EXTRACTION
The second carpet cleaning method is the hot water extraction Method. Sometimes called steam cleaning. It is the spraying of hot water into the carpet at high pressure and then sucking it out of the carpet with a powerful vacuum system. This method is also referred to as steam carpet cleaning, even though steam is involved. Or wet carpet cleaning.
Shaw Industries, one of the world’s largest carpet manufacturer, recommends hot water extraction. Mohawk Industries, another colossal carpet manufacturer, also recommends hot water extraction. In regards to hot water extraction, these are two primary types of hot water extraction equipment.
HOT WATER EXTRACTION
1. The portable equipment, small machines that plug into your household current.
2. Truck-mounted equipment is larger and much more powerful systems.
Truck-mounted equipment cleans better because it heats the water to a higher temperature. Rinsing the water out of the carpet at higher pressure which breaks up the dirt, bacteria and pollen. High-powered extraction to draw the soiled solution out of the carpet. This process is the method that world’s most prominent carpet manufacturer recommends. That is what we do.
Vehicle-mounted hot water extraction system is the best choice. It’s the most powerful cleaning machine on the market. The only device that properly cleans your carpet. This carpet cleaning method also removes all dirt, harmful bacteria, fungus, chemicals, pollen etc.
Methods that use cold and even warm water remove some soil but are not as effective as the hot-water truck mount method.
It's a common misconception that that hot water damages your carpet, but this isn’t true. Washing and then rinsing your carpet with hot water, we clean your carpet thoroughly. It is like a person who showers and then rinses off the dirt and soap. A person will be much cleaner than the person who soaps up and then wipes off with a towel without rinsing off. Hot water cleans better, faster, and with less cleaning agents. It also dries quickly and even sanitises your carpet. That contributes to a cleaner, healthier indoor living environment.
#4: Having the right equipment is all a company needs to clean your carpets.
Not true. Many companies own hot-water extractors. Several employees are not trained to use them. You know someone who bought the newest computer on the market. It doesn't make him an expert. The same applies to carpet cleaning machines. The company may own proper equipment, but the employees may not know how to use it.
The best carpet cleaning companies are those who are certified. Members Member of the Carpet Cleaning Association of Western Australia. A carpet cleaning company cannot just buy this certification. It must earn it. Like we did.
The professional would need to have at least a certificate three according to the Australian Qualifications Framework qualifications. They are experts in carpet and textile cleaning.
Before you choose a company ask to see proof of the company’s certifications.
#5: The company that offers the lowest price is the company you should hire.
Is it? Here are two crucial points to consider.
#5.1: The price you see given may not be for the services you want to be executed.
Before you select a business, decide what you want to do. If you require the practitioner to remove only some dirt spot, you can choose from hundreds of companies. They use small shampooers or other low-cost methods. Or you can even hire a machine at the grocery store and do the job yourself. You will be surprised that it will cost as much as our service anyway.
Do you want to remove the harmful dirt, bacteria, pollen and chemicals residues? Hire a firm that uses a hot water extractor mounted in a van.
Steam carpet cleaning is the only method that will assure that your carpet remains healthy. Free from dirt, disease-causing bacteria, and dangerous substances.
So, remember, the price you see given may not be for the services you want.
#5.2: The price you see advertised may not be the price you pay!
The low price advertised is always the amount you will pay.
"Bait and switch” companies sometimes offer a low price like $9.99 per room. Then compel you into paying a lot more once they are in the home. Not only is this unethical, often is illegal.
Like all professions, the carpet cleaning industry has its share of bad apples. I take no pleasure in telling you this, but some are unethical and, a few are dishonest. Their misleading advertising and false promises cast a dark shadow on our industry.
Then you’ll find carpet cleaners, professionals like us, who work hard to earn your trust and respect.
The only way you can make a wise decision is to have all the facts you need.
#6: Any reliable carpet cleaning company should be able to give you an exact price quote over the phone.
Not true. While we can provide an assessment over the phone, we can’t nail down the final number until we are in the place.
So, if you’d want us to tell you the accurate cost of cleaning your carpet, we need to know the precise number of square metres that you want to be cleaned. To get a very approximate estimate, calculate the exact size of the carpeted area.
Or call us to inspect the area. We do not charge for visiting your place to give you an estimate. We serve from Mandurah to Two Rocks so at least once a week we will be in a place near you..
You’ll be glad to know that the covered area to be cleaned is not nearly as large as most people assume. For example, if you want your entire place cleaned, and your home is 200 square metres, the amount of carpeting to might be only 80 square metres.
Most home sizes are outdoor measurements. We subtract the area taken up by walls, room dividers, hard floor surfaces, and the like. The result is that the actual area is usually only about 60% of the square footage of the home.
So, even though I can’t give you an exact quote over the telephone, here are things to consider when requesting a price.
First, the type of carpet. Certain types of carpet are harder to clean than others. So, before I can give you a quote, I need to know of the kind of fibre is your carpet.
Second, the amount of soiling. Carpet cleaned ten years ago will take longer to clean than carpet cleaned within the last six months.
Third, the amount of furniture that we have to move. If we have to move your furniture, we have included the cost of labour for that. But, if you move your movables, you’ll save money.
To recap, consider the kind of carpet, the amount of soiling, and the amount of furniture that we need to move. So, as you can guess, every quote is different.
So to have your clean, here are four recommendations:
#1: Commit yourself to get your carpets cleaned.
The longer they remain dirty, the sooner they’ll wear out. Consider also the air quality in your home and the health benefits of cleaning your carpet.
#2: List your objectives.
Do you only want some of the surface dirt removed, something you could do with a rented machine? Or do you want the bacteria, fungus, and chemicals removed? That requires a hot water truck mount cleaner, as we use. Choose honest, reputable company. Don't risk working with the company that offers the lowest price. That company might not be in business tomorrow.
#3: Ask questions.
The way you learn about a company is to ask specific questions and listen to the answers. Here are some questions for you to you ask:
What method of carpet cleaning do you recommend?
What type of equipment do you use to clean carpet?
What does your equipment remove from my carpet?
How often should I get my carpets cleaned?
What type of chemicals do you use? Are they safe?
What training and experience do you have?
Are you certified by the Member of the Carpet Cleaning Association of Western Australia? Will you show me your certificate?
Do you guarantee your work?
Do you have general liability insurance and workers compensation?
#4: Ask for a quotation in writing
A written quotation assures you that you know precisely what your job will cost. No surprises.
With these recommendations, you’ll have information you need to make an informed decision. If you want a quick, cheap surface carpet cleaning job, there are many companies in the phone book to choose. Or you can rent a machine at the supermarket and try it yourself.
You want your carpeting to completely clean? Removing the bacteria, fungus, chemicals, pollen, and residues call EcoFresh Cleaning.
